‘Absence’ is a work created while on residency at Arteles Creative Center, Finland. Made during a time of intense grief, the obscured faces of the figures, coupled with their nudity suggest mournfulness and burrowing vulnerability. The installation invites the viewer to lie down next to the life-size prints to physically join the pair.
The work spans two meters by two meters and is printed on plastic-topped foil with adhesive, designed for outdoor installation. In addition to being exhibited as part of Verge Public Art festival, ‘Absence’ was also shown as part of a greater series ‘Deep Solitude’ at Archive Space the following year.
This work was presented by Verge Gallery and installed on Eastern Avenue, Sydney University, between September and October 2014.
