The AIDS Council of New South Wales (ACON) women’s sexual health office commissioned me to create a body of photographic work of women-identifying people in the LGBTIQ community. These works were then used on a variety of promotional and advertising material, as well as being exhibited and auctioned during the 2016 ‘Fierce Femmes’ fundraiser on Oxford St, Sydney.
The collection was intended to explore the idea of the ‘femme’ broadly, and was visually united by using rope as a common theme throughout the series. I asked all the subjects who responded to my volunteer callout to wear clothing that made them feel sexy, and we tried at least three different scenes/outfits per model in my studio. I am in debt to these beautiful people for allowing themselves to be a little bit vulnerable and sharing their time with me.
ACON provide information on relevant health issues, and offer a range of specific and general services delivered by caring people in the LGBTIQ community who genuinely understand the health issues affecting lesbians and same sex attracted women. They also provide free safe-sex packages to anyone in Australia at a variety of venues.
