“A new series of artworks have been wrapped around the Newtown Art Seat, the unique gallery space in Newtown Town Square.

The new artwork, ‘Transcendent Flesh – Sequential Selves’ was created by Sydney-based conceptual artist, Grace Kingston. The works focus on the limits of flesh and mirrors the process of body modification and the associated pain involved.

Ms Kingston created the works by pressing models with modifications against stretched clear latex. the resulting images show the entire figure become suggestive of a sub-dermal implant, body jewellery that is paced under the skin.

The artwork is wrapped around the cylinder of the Art Seat, a dramatic 2.8 metre structure, and lit at night by LED strip lighting. This is the second artwork to feature in this dynamic space.

Mayor of Marrickville Morris Hanna, said the striking artwork was sure to get people talking.

“The Art Seat is an ideal space for young, emerging artist to exhibit works that cross traditional artistic boundaries” Cr Hanna said.
